For years I had wished on all my adventures out with the wild herds of finding a gorgeous wild white mustang. This trip in particular, it was something I really wanted ...thinking we were winding down the day, driving on a dirt road, sun dropped behind a soemwhat dark ominous cloud, mist starting in the air...we climbed a small hill and there he was in the middle of the dirt road, standing strong with his head turned back to us. Not frightened. Noble. Proud. Strong. He took me with him, literally showing me his herd of all white mares with their yearlings and foals on one side of the road, then every so gracefully and confidently walking to the otherside of the road and out onto a plateau of rocks that over looked his valley. He was not bothered with my presense at all, yet took me on this journey with him as if allowing me in to tell his story.
The Salt Wells HMA was stripped of 2100 wild horses just 11 months prior to my visit. This vast area covers over one million acres, and only allows for 365 horses to remain on the land.
